Welcoming Dr. David Foord as Acting Dean of the Faculty of Management

This summer, the faculty of management at the University of New Brunswick welcomes Dr. David Foord as Acting Dean, with experience spanning academic teaching and research, industry collaboration, and innovation management.
Dr. Foord will serve in this role from July 1 to Dec.31, 2025, while Dr. Devashis Mitra, Dean of the Faculty of Management, is on a six-month administrative leave.
An associate professor in the faculty, Dr. Foord teaches courses in innovation, entrepreneurship, and business history. He joined the faculty in 2020 and brings a rich background in both academia and industry.
Prior to his current role, he taught at St. Thomas University’s Science and Technology Studies Programme (2010–2016) and UNB’s Faculty of Engineering in the Technology Management and Entrepreneurship Program (2017–2019). In 2023, he was named the Wilson-McKenna Fellow in Digital Sustainability.
Since joining the faculty of management, Dr. Foord’s teaching has been recognized with several awards. He is the recipient of the UNB Student Union Red Award for Teaching Excellence (2021), UNB Teaching Scholar Award (2022), UNB Merit Award (2022), Faculty of Management Excellence in Research Award, 2016-2022 (2023) and MBA Graduate Student Society Professor Recognition Award (2024).
Dr. Foord’s professional service includes leadership roles in both university and private sector settings. He was a co-founder of Springboard Atlantic and a board member of CADMI Microelectronics, Charlotte Streets Art Centre and Q1 Labs.
He is currently a board member of Inversa Systems and is an advisory board member of the Emera and NB Power Research Centre and the Energy Modelling Hub. He is Chair of the Business History Division of the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada.
As the Faculty of Management continues to grow and evolve, Dr. Foord’s leadership promises to build on a strong foundation while exploring new opportunities for impact. We look forward to the months ahead and the momentum his vision and experience will bring to our community.
