UNB researcher wins awards at 2025 Administrative Sciences Association of Canada Conference

At the 2025 Administrative Sciences Association of Canada (ASAC) Conference, Dr. David Foord of UNB’s faculty of management won the Spark Tank pitch competition, two best paper awards and an outstanding reviewer award.

The Spark Tank featured finalists drawn from authors of the best conference divisional papers. Presenters had 180 seconds to pitch their work in front of a live audience of conference attendees and judges. Dr. Foord won for his pitch titled “How Does Canada Do Infrastructure Transitions? The Case of Telecommunications.”

Second, he was the recipient of the Best Paper award in the Business History Division for the paper: “From Telegraphs to Telephones: Tracing the Transition in Telephony across Technology, Infrastructure, Policy, Business and Users, 1846-1980.” His co-authors are Dr. Daniel Rosenbloom, Assistant Professor and Ivey Research Chair in Sustainability Transitions at the School of Public Policy & Administration, Carleton University, and Dr. Cameron Roberts, Senior Research Associate in Sustainability Transitions, also at the School of Public Policy & Administration, Carleton University.

Third, he received the award for Best Paper in the Technology and Innovation Management Division for the paper: “Interpretive Flexibility in Technology Innovation Systems and Policy Mixes: The Case of Smart Grids.” The paper was co-authored with Dr. Maha Tantawy, an assistant professor at the University of Windsor and Dr. Foord’s former post-doctoral fellow and Dr. Daniel Rosenbloom.

Dr. Foord was also recognized with an Outstanding Reviewer award from the Case Division for his efforts and expertise in peer-review. 

Dr. Foord is a member of the business adminstration area in the faculty of management. His research has been supported by NB Power, Emera, the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, Mitacs, Net Zero Atlantic and Mike and Jane Wilson.
