Term Extension for Faculty of Management Dean

Dr. Devashis Mitra will serve the faculty of management as dean for one more year. Dr. Kathy Wilson, Vice President Academic of the Fredericton campus, announced the extension on May 26, remarking on Mitra’s passion for the University of New Brunswick. “He is a strong advocate for the faculty of management and has worked hard to create an environment of support and collaboration.” Mitra’s extension commences July1, 2023.
Dr. Mitra has served as dean since 2013 and is recognized for his commitment in building partnerships for the faculty both on and off campus and for leading the faculty to obtaining AACSB accreditation.
“The faculty has seen considerable growth with the addition of new undergraduate experiential learning requirements as well as the implementation of a concentration in business analytics within the faculty’s MBA program,” noted Dr. Wilson. “Over the next year, Dean Mitra will focus on fulfilling the remaining goals of Vision 2015, including revamping the MBA program and continuing to grow enrollment and initiatives across the faculty and help resource this expansion.”
Dr. Mitra joined the faculty of management in 1991 and teaches courses in corporate finance, entrepreneurial finance, and international financial management. He is a member of the entrepreneurship and finance areas, and is co-author of Fundamentals of Corporate Finance, a widely adopted textbook now in its 7th edition. Dr. Mitra received two Merit Awards from UNB (in 2001 and 2012, and the Faculty of Business Administration’s Excellence in Research Award for research performance across his career (2002).
