SGS Spotlights UNB Physics Students' Successes

The finalists for the Canadian Association of Physicists Congress student poster and oral contributions were announced on June 22, 2023, at the end of this year’s meeting. Three UNB Physics students were recognized for their outstanding achievements!
Mustafa Saeed, whose research is with the Gravity Group, received first place in the poster competition for the Division of Theoretical Physics. He then was awarded Honourable Mention in the competition for best overall student poster presentation at the Congress. His poster was titled Ising-like model on black hole space.
Nicholas Caron, from the Laser Spectroscopy Group at UNB, tied for first place in the student oral competition for the Division of Atomic and Molecular Physics for his talk, titled The A ^2Pi_{1/2} - X ^{2}\Sigma{+} Transition in YbOD, a Molecule of Interest in the Search for Physics Beyond the Standard Model.
Timothy Blackmore, from the Laser Spectroscopy Group at UNB, tied with his colleague for first place in the student oral competition for the Division of Atomic and Molecular Physics. His talk, Laser Based Studies of Iron Monohydride (FeH): New Electronic States and Zeeman Spectroscopy in Support of Exoplanet Research, was selected as one of eight for consideration in the competition for best overall student oral presentation at the Congress. Happily, he was awarded the first prize in this prestigious national competition!
