Bailey Henderson has officially signed with the Seawolves Women’s basketball team for the 2021-22 varsity season. Coming to us from Miramichi, New Brunswick, Bailey is a well-seasoned athlete who has no issue adding intensity and pressure when she steps on the court. She is a graduate of Miramichi Valley high school where she was awarded Rookie of the Year (Grade 9), MVP (Grade 11) and maintained honors during her time there. Not only did she shine in high school, but she also played for Team New Brunswick for five years, attended Bantam Elite, played in the 2019-20 All-star game at UNB Saint John, and was invited to the Adidas Top 40 Camp (three years).

Bailey knew that basketball was the sport for her at a young age and since grade five it has been an outlet for any stressors that come her way. She has met some of her lifelong friends through playing the sport and it has given her a multitude of opportunities. Basketball has showed her that hard work, effort, and passion can really pay off, not just on the court but off the court as well.

“When I play basketball everything that is on my mind leaves and its like for two hours, I’m free from all my problems and can just play the sport I love without worry”.

While exploring other schools Bailey knew quickly that UNB Saint John felt like the right fit for her. She loves Saint John; she knows plenty of people who live here, and it is not far from her hometown. Academics come first for Bailey and she will be joining a team that has the same vision which was a big factor in her choice of school. She loves basketball but her education and planning her future is very important to her. Once Bailey arrives in the fall, she will be taking the Bachelor of Nursing program with aspirations of becoming a Nurse Practitioner. In addition to her career goals, she has some goals as a Seawolves athlete as well.

“My goals as an athlete for the season would be to have a voice on the team. I know that I will only be a rookie, but I have had lots of experience. I would also like to work on strengthening myself to play at the next level (ACAA)”.

As she looks forward to the next chapter in her life and competing in the ACAA, her biggest role model, Brittany Sullivan is very excited to see her play with the Seawolves. Brittany was Bailey’s basketball coach from grade 9-11 and has been a shoulder to lean on since the day they met. Brittany is an alumnus of Dalhousie University and played on the basketball team while studying to become a lawyer. Brittany has taught Bailey that things don’t get handed to people in life so working hard for what you want is necessary. She was unable to coach Bailey in her final year of high school, but Brittany is still in her corner. Bailey greatly appreciates that she can continue to reach out to her for advice.

Head coach, Kevin Munroe, discovered Bailey by watching her play in a number of tournaments. He found out that she was looking to go into Nursing and UNB Saint John offers one of the best Nursing programs in the region.

“We are able to give her the program she wants and also the opportunity to play the sport she loves. Bailey is a driven individual in all areas of her life. She does nothing unless its with 100% effort. She is focused on school, has a goal of becoming a nurse and beyond. On the court she plays the game with intensity and passion. She just loves playing basketball”.

Coach Munroe notes that Bailey will fit into the team culture of excellence in the classroom, community and on the court. She will bring leadership and a contagious attitude to excel the team. Her work ethic and desire to win will be a great enhancement to the Seawolves squad.

Welcome to the Seawolves Family Bailey!
