Ellie Collins has officially signed with the Seawolves Women’s Basketball squad. The Saint John local comes to us from Saint Malachy’s High school where she has been an MVP multiple times and holds honors in her academics. Ellie loves the social aspect of basketball but more importantly the competition of it. She delights in the opportunity to meet other competitors outside of her hometown. She enjoys working as a team to achieve success and is passionate about basketball because of her strong competitive nature. The sport allows her to work hard and continue to develop her athleticism.

Ellie has some goals for the season, which are to become a stronger player, physically and mentally. Naturally, she is looking forward to meeting new people in the classroom and on the court as well as building lasting friendships with her teammates. Ellie’s biggest role models are her parents, they have been supporting her every step of the way, she looks up to them and appreciates everything they have done for her.

“I chose UNB Saint John because I can take the courses that I want, stay in my hometown and play the sport I love all at the same time.”

Once Ellie arrives in the fall, she will be taking the Bachelor of Arts/Education program. Her career aspirations are to become an elementary school teacher while continuing to use her French skills.

Head Coach, Kevin Munroe has had the opportunity to see many Saint John players, but Ellie has been on his radar for quite some time. He immediately noticed that she was a dominant player on the Saint Malachy’s varsity team. Ellie’s focus on her education is of high priority to Coach Munroe, he also mentions that she has a high basketball IQ. She is mature and determined and already training for next year.

“On the court she can hurt you from all areas of the floor. Ellie always impressed me as an extremely hard worker and great teammate. She brings the total package we are looking for to the team.”

Coach Munroe feels that Ellie will be a great contributor in the classroom, in the community and on the court. Her size and skill will help the team score and her versatility will make opposing teams pay attention no matter what position she is playing. It is safe to say both Ellie and Coach Munroe are excited to get the season going!

Welcome to the Seawolves Family Ellie!
