A UNB Professor recently spent the Holidays with a different family of sorts, namely Canada's 2017 World Junior Hockey team, where he helped guide the group to their Gold medal performance!

Dr. Ryan Hamilton, a Faculty member in the Department of Psychology on the Fredericton Campus, travelled to Buffalo with the rest of team Canada's support staff as Hockey Canada's first full-time mental-health coach and worked with the Canada's World Junior team from start-to-finish, which culiminated in gold medals around the necks of each of the players and coaches.

Players and coaches alike praised Dr. Hamilton's performance in the role noting his presence in the room before, during and after big wins and losses was an integral part of the process, helping the team improve day-by-day leading up to the gold medal game.

When Ryan is not on the road with National and Provincial teams, putting in mileage for his marathon training, or spreading his enthusiastic teaching style and wisdom around undergraduate and graduate classrooms, he helps out a little closer to home as the Psychology Sports Consultant for our very own UNB Varsity Reds.

Although hard to believe, he also finds time to excel in his most important roles as a husband, and father of two children.
