To cap off postdoc appreciation week, The Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity (CIC)’s director, Dr. Ali Ghorbani, shared three profiles with us of some of the outstanding and successful postdoc fellows he supervises at the CIC.
Dr. Duc-Phong Le
Dr. Duc-Phong Le is working as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity (CIC), University of New Brunswick, Canada. Prior to that, he was a Scientist II in the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), Agency of Science, Technology, and Research (A*STAR), Singapore from July 2017 to March 2019, Senior Security Analyst at Underwriters Laboratories from May 2016 – June 2017, Research Scientist at National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore from October 2010 - May 2016, and a Postdoctoral Fellow at Algorithms research group, University of Caen – Base Normandie during 2009 - 2010. He received a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Pau et des Pays de l’Adour in August 2009. His research interests include applied cryptography, elliptic curve cryptography, implementation attacks, algebraic attacks, and applied machine learning to cybersecurity issues.
Dr. Farzaneh Shoeleh
Dr. Farzaneh Shoeleh is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity (CIC) since May 2019, where Farzaneh leads research and industrial projects. Her research is focused on machine learning and data mining and her responsibilities include leading the team to propose intelligent solutions for industrial projects based on the customers’ goals. She also helps grad students to develop their novel ideas and publish them into top-ranked journals and conferences. Prior to that, she was a researcher in Iran Telecommunication Research Center (ITRC), Iran from July 2015 to April 2018. She holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in computer engineering from the Shiraz University and her Ph.D. degree in computer engineering/artificial intelligence and robotics from the University of Tehran. She is the author of more than 15 academic papers and is the reviewer of 6 conferences.
Dr. Mahdi Daghmehchi Firoozjaei
Dr. Daghmehchi is a Postdoctoral research fellow at the Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity, University of New Brunswick, Canada, since September 2018. He received a BSc in Telecommunication Engineering from the Scientific-applied Faculty of Post and Telecommunication, an MSc. degree in Telecommunication-Cryptology from Imam Hossein Comprehensive University, Tehran, Iran, and his PhD. degree in Computer Engineering from Sungkyunkwan University, Suwon, Republic of Korea in 2000, 2005, and 2018, respectively.
He worked for the Telecommunication Company of Iran (TCI), Babol, Iran, as a senior engineer from 2006 to 2014. His research interest focuses on Blockchain, digital forensics, network security, and privacy-preserving. He was awarded the “Best Paper Award" in IEEE AINA 2015 and was the winner of the “2nd Prize for the Superior Research Award" of Sungkyunkwan University in 2017.
