Camila Ugarte (BPhil'08) - Saint John, NB

What is your most memorable moment from your UNB alumni volunteer experience?

I loved how supportive and encouraging the experience was in addition to how well organized everything was. I felt comfortable going into the experience and passionate about the subject matter.

Why did you decide to become a first-time volunteer?

The opportunity to represent my organization, but also speak on behalf of a topic I feel so passionate about. I loved my experiences an employment counsellor and therefore, to have the chance to support students in this capacity was a joy for me.

What are three words that describe your UNB Alumni volunteer experience?

Efficient

Collaborative

Focused

In what ways do you volunteer outside of UNB within your community?

I sit on the Saint John LIP board addressing ways to support newcomers to Saint John gain necessary employable skills in addition to supporting organization looking to hire newcomers.

What motivates you to give back your time and energy to the Alumni Office/community as a volunteer?

I was a student myself facing similar concerns and fears. To be able to help address those fears and create a line of communication and support for me is really uplifting.
