Last summer, I served as a Field Assistant with the UNB Silviculture Laboratory under the Flat-Top Spacing Trial as part of the Master of Environmental Management (MEM) program. This project is also in collaboration with the Northern Hardwood Research Institute (NHRI) and the Canadian Forest Service (CFS).
During this experience my role involved:
- Conducting forest inventory surveys, measuring tree growth and recording ecological data across diverse forest plots.
- Supporting data management and analysis, including diameter at breast height and crown width.
- Strengthening my skills in field ecology, data handling, and species identification.
This internship provided me with hands-on experience in how reliable forest data informs sustainable forestry management and biodiversity conservation in the face of climate change. It was both a challenging and transformative journey that reinforced my passion for advancing sustainable environmental solutions.
I am truly grateful to my mentors, supervisors, and colleagues at the UNB Silviculture Lab for their support, guidance, and knowledge-sharing.
Looking ahead, I am excited to apply these lessons toward future opportunities in forest conservation, ecosystem services, and climate resilience.
