UNB Fredericton signs accreditations with CPHR NB

Business students focusing their study on human resources management at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton now have a more direct path to obtaining the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources designation.
The university's faculty of management reached an agreement with CPHR New Brunswick on Nov. 1, 2019, to provide accreditation of its bachelor of business administration with a major in human resources management and in the certificate in applied human resources management programs on the Fredericton campus.
The accreditation means that graduates of UNB Fredericton’s BBA program, with a major in human resources, and graduates of the certificate in applied human resources management will be conditionally eligible to waive writing the National Knowledge Exam.
This not only applies to current students but also to alumni of the program who have graduated within the last five years.
“This accreditation will be a significant benefit to our students,” said Dr. Devashis Mitra, dean of the faculty of management. “It is the highest human resource certification in Canada. The combination of theory, practice and professional accreditation gives students exactly what they need to pursue a successful human resource career.”
“CPHRNB is excited to welcome UNB Fredericton to our organization as we both add value to prospective human resources professionals in New Brunswick,” said Luc Page, CPHRNB Chief Executive Officer. “This agreement will ensure that the CPHRNB professional standards are upheld as we strive to meet the need for this growing segment of the employment market.
“This is our third accreditation agreement in post-secondary in New Brunswick. UNB Fredericton has met our accreditation standards and we are excited to develop a long-term relationship with their organization as we both work to enhance the human resources profession in our province,” said Mr. Page.
“CPHRNB values academic rigour and high professional standards. We are pleased that UNB Fredericton shares these values and the awarding of our accreditation is a testament to this. We look forward to a long relationship focused on working collaboratively to develop human resource professionals for our province.”
As part of this agreement, students and recent graduates will be able to waive writing the National Knowledge Exam, which assesses one’s understanding of the CPHR Competency Framework. The National Knowledge Exam is a crucial step in receiving the designation of CPHR, which signifies that an individual is of the highest standard of HR professionals.
The CPHRNB was established in October 1996 to meet the needs of human resources professionals in New Brunswick for their growth and recognition. The association’s mandate includes attaining recognition as a resource on employment issues, as well as promoting and gaining acceptance of the human resources field for the distinct body of knowledge it provides in business. Its purpose is to promote and encourage members to develop and maintain a professional standard of knowledge and proficiency in its occupational field.
