Carolyn Welden has accepted the position to lead the UNB Saint John Seawolves women’s volleyball program for next season. Ms. Welden is currently the executive director of Volleyball New Brunswick and wishes to continue her passion of developing elite athletes.
Ms. Welden is a Chartered Professional Coach who has led programs at the college, university and international levels. She was the head coach at Niagara College of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association for eight years and led the team to national rankings and provincial championships. She was then coach of the Royal Military College Women’s Volleyball Team for 10 years, competing in the Ontario University Athletics and taking her team to a final-four championship.
She has also led the Canadian Forces National Women’s Team and has competed internationally in two World Games in India and Brazil, as well as other international contests in The Netherlands, Germany, Brazil, Costa Rica, Cuba and the United States.
Ms. Welden's experience and character will serve the Seawolves extremely well as they continue to train to develop and compete to win.
“I am excited to be joining a successful program and I look forward to helping the athletes meet their full potential both on and off the court,” says Ms. Welden.
"It is a privilege to welcome Carolyn to the Seawolves family,” says David Munro, UNB Saint John Athletics Director. “The team has many good returning players and we are excited to see how Carolyn's vast coaching experience will impact the program." Ms. Welden makes her coaching debut with the Seawolves on Nov. 2 versus the Mount Allison University Mounties.
