As I look back on this very unusual semester, I am so grateful to be a UNB student. Thanks in large part to supportive alumni like you and the UNB Alumni Legacy Award, I have been able to make the most of attending university in challenging times.
My scholarship allowed me to take advantage of more experiential learning opportunities on campus. Thanks to small class sizes and the ability to get to know my instructors, I was offered a teaching assistant position this past semester with Valerie Whyte, coordinator of the Faculty of Management’s co-op program. I was responsible for marketing the program, particularly via social media. I was able to accept this role, and gain such valuable experience, thanks to the flexibility afforded me by the Alumni Legacy Award.
I was thrilled to help plan and take part in the Business Administration Undergraduate Society Excellence Gala. I was nominated for the Excellence in Marketing Award at the Gala, and though I didn’t win the award it was an exciting accomplishment for me because it recognized my involvement on campus so far.
For the second year, I have been appointed to the Business Administration Undergraduate Society, this time as a Social Media Director. I was also selected as a Peer Mentor for the Faculty of Management, an exciting opportunity to engage with new students in the coming year. Recently I have been chatting one-on-one with incoming students to answer questions and provide advice – I’m thrilled to be able to offer this support, even remotely.
My scheduled summer internship was cancelled due to the pandemic, but I have been fortunate to start a summer co-op working for the UNB Marketing Office. I LOVE my new job. I am learning so much, and it has been such a great opportunity to learn more about UNB and contribute to the school community in a new and exciting way.
Alumni donors have made a world of difference to my university experience. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do for students like me.
Sincerely,
Laura Palmer
