Austin Peterson has officially signed with the UNB Saint John Men's volleyball team.
Head Coach Dino Karatzios first noticed Peterson at the New Brunswick Volleyball provincials where he was a starting right side for the Reds club team. Coach Karatzios feels that Austin has a great sense of the game and knows how and where to put the ball. In addition to Peterson's solid passing technique he is well respected by his former coaches and teammates. One of many things that Peterson will add to to the team is his well rounded attitude which will complement the existing team culture.
"Overall he is a strong player defensively and offensively and a solid left handed player".
Austin grew up in Keswick, NB and attended Fredericton high school where he played for the Varsity Black Kats who clenched a provincial title last year. His Reds club team also snagged first place at provincials this past fall with an undefeated regular season. Austin got involved in volleyball because of his older sister who also plays, he found it challenging and fun and decided to keep going. He is always striving to be better and continuing to work on his craft which makes him love the game even more. Austin is left handed which can be very helpful in his position on the floor and is very eager to get the 2018-19 season on the go. In the volleyball world a big role model for Austin is professional volleyball player and member of Team Canada Volleyball, Gavin Schmitt.
"I think I can bring a good attitude to the team and get a few points when we need them".
His decision to attend UNB Saint John came naturally after his older sister expressed how great her own student experience was. His plan is to improve his volleyball skills, get stronger and balance academics with athletics. Austin will be working towards a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree.
Welcome to the Seawolves family Austin!
