Karlee Duval has officially signed with the UNB Saint John Seawolves for the 2018-19 Varsity season.

The newest local addition to the Seawolves hails from Baxter's Corner, NB and will be graduating from Centre Scolaire de Champlain in June. Karlee began playing soccer at four years old and was immediately hooked. She had tried other sports with encouragement from her parents but soccer was and still is her passion. Jason Brown (Fundy Soccer Association Technical Director), provided her with guidance and encouragement over the years as her coach, which molded her into the player she is today.

"He pushed and challenged me in a way that made me want to get better and better."

Karlee comes from a small high school so she appreciates the class sizes and the low student to professor ratio at UNB Saint John. She will be starting in the Bachelor of Science program and will venture on to Medical school in hopes of becoming a radiologist.

"I think it will be a great place to learn with incredible educational opportunities".

She is a dedicated and hardworking student athlete and has the achievements to prove it. Karlee has kept a consistent grade average of 93 percent from grades 9-12 and has had the opportunity to travel for her number one sport. Her diligence in soccer has led her to compete at regional, provincial and national levels and among those have awarded her with two bronze medals and three silver medals. Karlee was a member of U14 and U16 Fundy Soccer Premier teams which took her to Boston, MA for the GPS Summer Showcase in 2014. Her goals for the  2018-19 season are to grow, learn and make an immediate impact on the Seawolves team. She is looking forward to the transition to ACAA level of competition and is excited to get the ball rolling in August.

Head Coach Dave Vicente witnessed Karlee play for her high school two years ago. He immediately took note of how fast and aggressive she was and had great skill on the ball.

"What really peaked my interest was how naturally she scored goals, always making good run ins and putting the ball in the net when given the chance."

Coach Vicente has kept up with Karlee's progression as an athlete and further explains that she has improved in her all around game. He was pleased to hear that she chose UNB Saint John and the Seawolves program, especially since she was being scouted by other teams in and out of the ACAA conference. He feels Karlee will be a striker that is more clinical in front of the net which is something the team was lacking last season. Coach Vicente thinks she will have a smooth transition because she is already familiar with players on the team. Her easy going attitude will make it an easy adjustment into the Seawolves program.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing Karlee play. I believe with her as a striker it will make a huge difference on the team and have a big impact in the league."
