Ben Wilson has officially signed with the UNB Saint John Seawolves men's volleyball squad.
Ben will be graduating from Nackawic High school in June of 2018 and his next academic adventure will be at UNB Saint John in the Business program.
He has been around volleyball his entire life considering his father and aunt have both officiated volleyball at the national level. Ben has watched them perform at many CIS (now U Sport) and CCAA (Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association) matches. Through his family his interest in volleyball was born and so began his participation in grass roots programs and he's been playing ever since. As for Ben's athletic achievements, his high school team won the NBIAA provincial banner and they are looking to take the title again this year. Ben's U18 Reds club team also won the Volleyball New Brunswick age class banner. He has been fortunate enough to receive some personal awards during volleyball career but his favorite aspect is being a part of a hard working team. Aside from volleyball, Ben enjoys playing other sports, being outside and spending time with family and friends.
"To be able to keep playing after high school is something special for me and I'm looking forward to seeing what the future holds"
Ben chose UNB Saint John because he thoroughly enjoys the set up of the campus, from the class sizes to the athletic facilities. "To be honest, it was nice to be recruited to a program that combines a great education with a great volleyball program". His parents are originally from the Saint John area so he has lots of family close by which is very important to him.
Head coach of the Men's Volleyball program, Dino Karatzios, discovered Ben at the New Brunswick Provincials in December of 2017 and noticed he was a starting setter for the Reds club team. Something Coach Karatzios found very unique in Ben's skill was that he is a left handed setter which can be an offensive strength for the team and difficult to read for the opposition.
"Ben is a hard working player who hustles for every ball to make the play for his team mates".
Ben demonstrated strong fundamentals and decision making abilities in addition to having a great knowledge of the game, he sees these as great assets to progress the team's success. "Ben has a great personality, he's witty and enjoyed by his team mates, Ben fits perfectly with our team's culture".
Welcome to the Seawolves Family Ben!
