George Gbongbor officially commits to the Men's Soccer program at UNB Saint John for the 2018-19 Varsity season.

Head Coach of the Seawolves Soccer team, Dave Vicente noticed George when he played U18 for Moncton. Coach Vicente was coaching against George's team at the time and he took note of his size and speed which caused his defense some problems. He knew from that point George was a prospect but hadn't talked to him until he saw him play at a showcase tournament in the winter.

George was invited to a training session which confirmed that he would be a great addition to the Seawolves program. The coaches also got to meet George's family to let them know what UNB Saint John could offer him academically and athletically. From Coach Vicente's perspective, George has always played a more direct style of soccer and the coaches can't wait to see his talent in action. George will train and condition with the team to maximize his abilities and play off of his team mates as a target man style striker.

"He's a very well spoken young man that has plans for his post secondary education. I believe that George will make his presence known in the league right away. The staff and I are very excited and can't wait to get started this fall"

George grew up watching soccer with his brother and father, they joy for him was being fast and scoring goals when he played. His biggest role models have been his parents because they have always been a solid and caring support system. His father has motivated him greatly over the years which boosted his confidence to play harder. He views soccer as a good outlet to relieve stress too. George has played Team New Brunswick for the past few years and during this time has placed 3rd and 1st. He is a striker that gets the job done and scores goals for his team. In addition to Team New Brunswick he played three years with Codiac FC and went to nationals twice, he was awarded top scorer in his first year. As a rookie to the Seawolves team he will be walking into a familiar atmosphere as he knows many of the current players, he will feel right at home.

"I plan on executing my full potential, prove my worth and have the team and coaches know that it was not a mistake to recruit a player like myself"

He will begin his studies under the Bachelor of Arts program and eventually go into Nursing. George chose UNB Saint John because he had heard great things about the reputation of the Nursing program here on campus. He is also looking forward to reconnecting with existing friends and meeting new people as he begins his journey as a freshman.
