University communities are essential in the effort to build a more sustainable future. As UNB works towards its climate action and sustainability goals, UNB Sustainability is happy to highlight UNB community members who are making a difference on campus as “Green Champions”.

Our first Green Champion of 2026 is Bradley Shoebottom!

My name is Bradley Shoebottom, and I am an Institutional Analyst on the staff of UNB's Office of Institutional Analysis in Marshal d’Avray Hall.

I gather data from across all UNB operations to produce the UNB Fact Book and provide data to university ranking organizations. I submit data directly to the QS Sustainability Rankings about UNB. I also contribute data to the Sustainability Office, which completes the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. When the annual results are released, I review them to determine how UNB could improve its rankings and operations.

In my personal life, I am pursuing a PhD in history. One aspect of my thesis related to sustainability is documenting the Canadian transportation of salvaged war materials from the Western Front for recycling during the First World War.
