University communities are essential in the effort to build sustainable futures. As UNB works towards its climate change action plans and sustainability goals, UNB Sustainability is excited to highlight students, faculty and staff who are making a difference on campus as “Green Champions”.

Our newest Green Champion is Don Allen, Director of Security.

Hi, I’m Don Allen, the Director of Security at UNB for the past seven years. I feel that it is important for people to recognize that regardless of their role in the campus community, there are ways to support sustainability and help make a difference.

Our office supports active transportation initiatives and has implemented the 529 Garage bike registry initiative in partnership with local law enforcement. This is a theft prevention initiative that helps encourage people to bring a bike to campus instead of using a car.

We have also just launched an electronic parking permit system for campus that replaces our old model of using plastic hanging tags and decals. This system will also significantly reduce the use of paper related to parking management and allows people to purchase parking permits without having to come to campus.

I encourage everyone to look at your area of responsibility to find ways to be more sustainable and support the University’s Climate Change Action Plan.
