Celebrate Sustainability this October.

The University of New Brunswick has a commitment to lead sustainability across Canadian universities while building an engaged ‘Sustainability’ community. Therefore, every year the UNB celebrates Sustainability by hosting an annual Sustainability Week in October. This year, as issues surrounding sustainability become larger, so does UNB’s celebration! Join us in celebrating Sustainability Month, throughout October, and follow along with UNB Sustainability’s Facebook and Instagram to keep up to date.

There will be several events, covering all aspects of sustainability. Our events aim to help with your personal sustainability; reduce your waste by attending mending workshops and clothing swaps; learn more at discussions held throughout the month by diverse groups; participate in live music encouraging sustainable living; and join environmental initiatives celebrating gardening and sustainable food options.

Also, UNB Sustainability is hosting a Student Society CleanUp Challenge and the Academic Bike Challenge (ABC); to encourage staff, faculty and, students to cycle more in their daily lives. Ride with us and join the ABC or join your society in a cleanup, throughout Sustainability Month, for your chance to win prizes!

“As we are transitioning back to our collective ‘new normal’ we are encouraging our students, faculty, and staff to keep sustainability at the forefront of their mind. Sustainability Month will not only reinforce this, but it will also provide an opportunity for our community to connect and participate in some great sustainable activities and events.” says Danielle Smith, UNB’s Sustainability Coordinator.

Along with these events, there will also be an education campaign highlighting the work that the UNB community is doing towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. There will be posters in the Student Union Building frames in Fredericton and the screens across the Saint John campus, as well as online via UNB Sustainability’s social media accounts. Highlighted projects will include student and faculty research, operational improvements, and university initiatives from both the Fredericton and Saint John campuses.
