The Lorenzo Society on the University of New Brunswick (UNB) Saint John campus is pleased to announce its Fall 2022 music series.

The first concert, featuring the Saint John String Quartet, will take place on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 12 p.m. in the Baird Dining Room (Cafeteria), UNB Saint John.

For more than 30 years, the quartet has stood among Canada’s leading chamber music ensembles. Renowned for its flexibility, the Saint John String Quartet is equally comfortable collaborating with blues artists and rock superstars and performing classical masterworks on its own.

On Wednesday, Nov. 23, Ceol presents Half a Christmas Concert, held in memory of Dr. Li-Hong Xu. The concert will take place at 7 p.m. in the Hazen Hall Lecture Theatre, UNB Saint John.

Dr. Xu was instrumental in cultivating a relationship with DalMedNB and UNB allowing students from the Saint John campus to join Dalhousie medical students in both the Heartbeat! Choir and the Ceilidh band, Ceol.

Heartbeat! is a Dalhousie Medicine NB/UNB Saint John choir directed by Janet Kidd with piano accompanist John Higgins. Originally formed in 2010 through Dalhousie Medicine NB’s Humanities program for medical students, the choir has expanded to include anyone from the UNB Saint John campus and the community.

The choir’s repertoire is eclectic – pop, classical and the occasional medieval piece.

Ceol, which means music in Gaelic, is a Dalhousie Medicine NB band that plays both traditional and contemporary Celtic music.

The Lorenzo Society acknowledges the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, The League of Canadian Poets, UNB Saint John campus and its private sponsors.

Admission for both performances is free and open to the public. Masks are required. For more information, email lorenzo@unb.ca.
