Olivia Bell will be making quite the journey to attend UNB Saint John and join the Seawolves Women's Volleyball team!
Coach Lauren Hale-Miller thinks Olivia has the right enthusiasm that will add to the team dynamic. She's aggressive and adapts quickly in new situations and her willingness to learn will come in handy for the squad. Upon meeting Olivia, Lauren said that her recruit visit felt like she was part of the team already.
Bell began playing volleyball at the very young age of 6 and has been playing club volleyball since she was 13. She won MVP for the 2016-17 season for her school team and was awarded "Spirit of the Game" and "Leader of the Pack" for her club team. In addition to volleyball she also played high school basketball for four years and was captain to both sports for school and club teams. One of her highlights include being voted by her school to organize, lead and represent activities in school spirit for Centennial Collegiate. Olivia's leadership skills will no doubt transfer over to her game play when she hits the floor for the Seawolves. Ironically enough, she didn't like volleyball when she first began playing but once she competed at the U15 club level her love for the sport grew. She mentions that her mother got her involved in volleyball and basketball at a young age which will pay off as she enters the ACAA level. For the last three years Olivia has been playing the position of Libero but has been a setter and an outside hitter. Aside from her love of volleyball she was in dance academy for three years, loves music, baking and surfing.
As per Olivia: "I love the energy of the game and the feeling you get after you get a perfect pass or a perfect hit. I feed off my teammate's energy". "I'm very excited to be continuing my schooling at UNB Saint John and over the top excited to be playing with the Seawolves!".
Why did Olivia choose UNB Saint John?
She was looking for a University that she could really focus on both her education and volleyball. Mickey Adams (volleyball scout) emailed the Seawolves head coach and told her about Olivia and invited her to come down and play, so technically UNB Saint John chose her! Olivia loved the campus and its small community like feel and she hopes that the smaller class sizes will benefit her focus on learning. She has never been to the East Coast so she was thrilled to visit, to her it was an adventure and she is excited that the adventure will continue once she arrives in the fall. UNB Saint John reminds her of Lake Waskesiu so she will have no problem feeling comfortable once she gets settled in.
Welcome to the Seawolves Family Olivia.....and your home away from home!
