Maria Cummings hails from Sussex, NB and has an infectious love for volleyball.
She has been playing the game for 6 years and has enjoyed every moment on the court. Her positions of play include outside hitter and setter and her favorite aspect of the game is team work. Maria has the most fun working together with her team mates and winning games. She was an award winner for her Varsity team in middle school and continued on at Sussex Regional High to play JV in her first year and then Varsity for the next three years. In addition to her school participation she has also been playing club volleyball for four years to develop her skill to what it is today. Her U18 Sonic club team were provincial champions in tier 2 for the 2016-17 season and played for the Volleyball New Brunswick U16 provincial team.
As per Head Coach Lauren Hale-Miller:
"We are excited to have Maria join the Seawolves program in the fall. It's not everyday we have a 6'0 setter in our gym. Maria also swings which puts her in a great position coming in. She has an excellent attitude and a huge passion for volleyball."
Upon joining the Seawolves family, Maria will be under the direction and guidance of a knowledgeable and experienced coach. Lauren has a knack for the technical aspect of volleyball and has a coaching style that involves team work (on and off the court), team building and always stresses the importance of cohesion. There is no doubt that Maria will continue to improve her craft and have a great time doing it!
Maria will be in the Bachelor of Business program and aspires to be in the field of law. She chose UNB Saint John because of the great business program and the campus is very close to home.
Welcome to the Seawolves Family Maria!!!
Go Seawolves!!
