Zac Miersch's decision to take a year off to work quickly changed upon meeting Peter Vincent (Head Coach, Men's Basketball UNB Saint John). Vincent took notice of him during a Basketball game at Harbor Station in Saint John. Shortly after, Zac received word that an offer to play for the Seawolves was on the table.
Zac is originally from Collingwood, ON but his family moved to Miramichi, NB in 2008. His first love was baseball and began playing at age 7, he then picked up basketball in elementary school. He has always stayed involved in sports in a few capacities: as an athlete, an official (Baseball umpire since the age of 12) and even a mascot for the local hockey team, Miramichi Timberwolves.
"Throughout all this time Zac has been a 2 sport kid. He plays baseball each summer and basketball during the winter. Zac is a good student who has also held a part time job since he was 15." - Tracy Miersch (Mother)
He moved onto middle school and continued to play for Jim Watters who invited Zac to participate in the Miramichi Hoops program. His skill and talent would develop through the program to become a strong athlete. He was eager to learn and listen to Coach Watters during his time as a Bantam player in addition to his middle school team. His next move was attending Miramichi Valley High school where he played on the Junior Varsity team, coached by Tennyson Tozer, and the Midget team. The following year, grade 10, he made the Varsity team and returned to playing for Coach Watters. Zac put in some serious work over the next couple of years to finally gain a starting position in grade 12.
Zac will be taking the Bachelor of Arts program at UNB Saint John and plans to switch into Business as he would like to focus on Accounting.
Welcome to the Seawolves Family Zac!!!
GO SEAWOLVES!!!
