The University of New Brunswick (UNB) marked Respectful Workplace Week, running from Sept. 3-6, with a signing ceremony today, led by UNB’s President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Paul Mazerolle.
This initiative highlights UNB’s commitment to creating a positive and inclusive work environment for all faculty, staff and students. It also emphasizes the importance of maintaining a safe and healthy workplace that is free from discrimination and harassment.
The declaration features four key principles
- All workers deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
- Respectful and positive behaviour in the workplace enhances individual, organizational and societal well-being and prevents unnecessary suffering.
- Individuals are every organization’s most important asset and are crucial to success, innovation and sustainability.
- All community members have a responsibility to ensure each other’s safety from emotional, psychological and physical harm and to help break the cycle of victimization and abusive behavior.
“Respectful Workplace Week is an important time for us to continue fostering a supportive environment at UNB,” said Dr. Mazerolle. “I am proud to sign the declaration and reinforce our steadfast commitment to respect and well-being for everyone in our university community.”
Throughout the week, the Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre for Family Violence Research at UNB will be supporting events hosted by the Public Legal Education and Information Service of New Brunswick, aimed at promoting understanding and collaboration among colleagues.
