Fifteen students join list of UNB Sir Howard Douglas Scholars

The University of New Brunswick (UNB) inducted fifteen students as 2024 Sir Howard Douglas Scholars yesterday evening at an event on the Fredericton campus. This induction recognizes students’ outstanding involvement at UNB and in their local and international communities.
“Sir Howard Douglas Scholars go on to achieve continued success both in academic endeavours and in contributing to the success of others,” said Dr. Paul J. Mazerolle, president and vice-chancellor at UNB.
“These impressive individuals become part of a network of outstanding students who truly exemplify the motto of the Sir Howard Douglas Society, Non Nobis Solum: Not for Ourselves Alone.”
Faculties nominate each year’s scholars, who have completed at least two years of their undergraduate degree program. They must also have achieved academic excellence and actively participated in co-curricular or extracurricular activities.
This year’s inductees included:
- Sarah Boyd from Hanwell, New Brunswick, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a major in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics.
- Denisha Coelho from Mumbai, India, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.
- Abigail Conrad from Cavan, Ontario, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts with joint honours in Sociology and French.
- Camilla Drost from Fredericton, New Brunswick, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a major in Chemical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. Camilla is also pursuing a Diploma in Technology, Management, and Entrepreneurship and two specializations in Nuclear Power and Energy Conservation.
- Vincent d’Entremont from Hebbville, Nova Scotia, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a major in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Option.
- Sophia Gatto from Fredericton, New Brunswick, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration with honours in Accounting, a minor in Mathematics and a concentration in Logistics.
- Anajose Reyes Guevara from Fredericton, New Brunswick, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science with honours in Biology.
- Aidan Keenan from Blackville, New Brunswick, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts with honours in History.
- Loreena Kuijper from Sheshatshiu, Newfoundland and Labrador, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts with honours in Psychology.
- Sungmok Lee from Seoul, South Korea, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science with honours in Biology.
- Hala Nasir from Fredericton, New Brunswick, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science with honours in Biology and a minor in Anthropology.
- Haley Prosser from Petitcodiac, New Brunswick, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts with joint honours in English and History.
- Andrew Smith from St. Stephen, New Brunswick, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science with a major in Biology.
- Ariane Volpé from Fredericton, New Brunswick, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science with honours in Medicinal Chemistry.
- Madison Worth from Nauwigewauk, New Brunswick, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science with honours in Biology-Psychology and a minor in Philosophy.
Sir Howard Douglas was a founder and the first chancellor of King’s College in Fredericton, the predecessor to UNB. He served as lieutenant governor of New Brunswick from 1823 to 1831. He spent his term encouraging development, seeking support for Indigenous Peoples, improving communications and promoting education.
Established in 2006, the Sir Howard Douglas Society of Scholas has 293 members.
