NB-IRDT is excited to announce the launch of our fourth annual Pathways to Professions experiential learning program, taking place from May 15 until August 11, 2023. Apply now to participate as a student this coming summer or keep reading to learn more about the program and our partnership with Future GNB.
What is Pathways to Professions?
Pathways to Professions (also known as P2P) is a 13-week paid experiential learning program for post-secondary students in New Brunswick, developed and hosted by NB-IRDT and our partners. Taking place every summer, P2P matches student participants with experienced researchers and community stakeholders to undertake NB-relevant projects, participate in weekly foundational skills training sessions, and reflect on the connections between their work experience, academic study, and community involvement.
In 2022, NB-IRDT joined forces with the Government of New Brunswick and welcomed Future GNB / Avenir GNB as a P2P partner and program host. With Future GNB project leads joining our program, new research streams were created to contribute directly to ongoing government initiatives, and bilingual Future GNB program offerings are now available
The overarching goal of P2P is to enhance student employability and decrease the education-work divide in NB. P2P provides students with opportunities – through hands-on research experience, mentoring, and collaborative training – for professional development in areas related to research and communication. Students develop key skills that empower them to participate in the labour market more effectively in areas of knowledge translation, data management and analysis, research ethics and privacy principles, communication strategies, project management, and more.
Don’t take our word for it, though – check out our 2022 program in review, promotional P2P video, and Future GNB (FR / EN) videos made by our respective student teams for information on past projects, training sessions, and student experiences.
What’s New This Year?
Together with Future GNB, we’ve made it even easier for students to apply to P2P by using one application form for both NB-IRDT and Future GNB research streams. Now, students can read more about both types of research projects and apply to work in their areas of interest in one centralized place.
