Students at UNB Fredericton receive Canada’s largest STEM scholarship

Matthew Toms-Zuberec and Julien Hache have been named UNB Fredericton’s recipients of the prestigious Schulich Leader Scholarship.
Out of a pool of 350,000 potential candidates across Canada, 1,400 students were nominated. Given the unprecedented challenges we are facing this year in Canada, an additional 50 scholarships are once again being awarded, for a total of 100.
Julien Hache, 18, is a recipient of the $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. A graduate of James M. Hill Memorial High School in Miramichi, N.B., Hache will be entering the bachelor of science in engineering program this fall on the UNB Fredericton campus. Hache was selected for his outstanding academic and extra-curricular achievements, including his role of co-captain of his high school’s hockey team and co-founding Print-ER, a company that manufactures sustainable 3D printers.
Matthew Toms-Zuberec, 18, is a recipient of the $80,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. A graduate of Notre Dame High School in Calgary, Alberta, Toms-Zuberec will be entering the bachelor of computer science program at UNB Fredericton this fall. Toms-Zuberec was selected for his outstanding academic and extra-curricular achievements, including a COVID-19 tracker and leadership of the robotics projects for his high school engineering class.
