The New Brunswick Institute for Research, Data and Training (NB-IRDT) is committed to research that benefits New Brunswickers. To accomplish this, we are always looking for ways to incorporate NB citizens in our research process.
At the moment, we are seeking two NB residents to join our Data and Research Committee (DRC) Working Group as Citizen Partners.
What is the NB-IRDT data and research committee?
NB-IRDT is a research and data institute that collects and uses data to carry out research to inform policymaking in New Brunswick. The DRC plays an important role at NB-IRDT – including reviewing requests from researchers to access administrative data and providing feedback on research reports from projects that use administrative data.
What does a citizen partner do?
We are seeking two individuals to provide a citizen perspective in this review process. The Citizen Partners will join the DRC Working Group to review Data Access Requests and drafts of research reports prior to public release. Citizen Partners will attend regular meetings (currently held online), which are typically on the third Friday of every month. They will be asked to provide feedback from a public perspective on the use of public data for research related to a variety of topics, including health and health care, education and training, immigration, and poverty reduction.
No direct experience is necessary, but an understanding of public policy and/or administrative data would be very helpful. Ideally, citizen volunteers will be able to commit to two-year term with the option to renew for up to three consecutive terms, although this is flexible.
To apply, please contact Afton Lavigne, NB-IRDT’s Data Access Coordinator, at afton.lavigne@unb.ca. This opportunity will remain open until both positions are filled.
