The Seawolves men’s volleyball dipped into the local talent pool, signing Gabe Powell to their 2024-25 Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) roster.
“Gabe is 6-foot-5 and can reach above 11 feet. That kind of height and vertical makes him extremely valuable, especially on the block," said men’s head coach Dino Karatzios.
A graduate of Samuel-de-Champlain High School, Powell is based in Rothesay, New Brunswick, and was a member of the school's volleyball program, where he was first spotted by coach Karatzios.
“I met Gabe three years ago through the Samuel-de-Champlain High School volleyball program,” Karatzios said. “Since then, I’ve been monitoring his progress and occasionally working with him to improve certain aspects of his game. “
Experienced in many sports, Powell looks forward to honing his skills on the volleyball court and credits a lot of that to his parents.
“My mom and dad both played volleyball, and they have a lot of good memories from it. I am passionate about the game because it is fun, and I love the experience of every match," he said.
Staying close to home for his studies, Powell is enrolled in the University of New Brunswick Saint John’s business program, hoping to pursue international business for the travel opportunities and the chance to explore the world.
Welcome to the Seawolves family, Gabe!
