Llorena Prekaj has officially signed with the UNB Saint John Seawolves women’s basketball team for the 2024-2025 Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) season. 

From Mississauga, Ontario, Prekaj is excited to continue growing her skills on and off the court. Her accomplishments are nothing short of impressive, having received Athlete of the Year two years in a row, as well as earning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award during the Rimrocker Tournament. This event sees the best high school teams from the Peel region and beyond compete.  

“To me, it’s more than just a sport; it helped me create closer friendships and become a stronger individual,” Prekaj said.  

Prekaj currently plays in the Juel of Ontario, an independent basketball league that provides opportunities for females to play their way to the next level. Her head coach, Brian Lopez, says she is just getting started in terms of what she is capable of on the court.  

“She works hard on her game, her strength, shooting, and basketball IQ,” said Lopez. “We believe she will be able to transition her game to the university level and contribute to the team fairly quickly,” he added. 

Four years on as an honour roll student at St. Francis Secondary School, Prekaj will be studying for a Bachelor of Science in UNB Saint John’s Biology program with hopes of becoming an optometrist and attending optometry school to earn her master’s.  

The other pull that made it an easy decision to join the Seawolves was the unique opportunity to play alongside her sister, Laura Prekaj, second-year women’s basketball player.  

“Being able to play University basketball with my sister has always been a dream of mine, so I am beyond grateful I get the opportunity to share my experience with her at UNB Saint John,” Prekaj said.
