Ava Sprague has officially signed with the Seawolves women’s basketball squad.
Sprague's interest in basketball began when she watched her sister play the sport, and her passion for the game only grew from there.
Playing on the women’s varsity basketball team at Fredericton high school, she accumulated numerous accomplishments over the four years. Sprague was recognized as the Most Valuable Player during her grade 10 season on the basketball team. From there, she played on the grade 11 varsity team and was recognized as a New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association (NBIAA) All-Star in her last year.
Sprague's current coach, Kevin Daley, the varsity women’s basketball head coach at Fredericton High School, is impressed with her work ethic on and off the court.
“She was a co-captain this year and showed great leadership skills on and off the court, performing as a top scorer for the team," Daley said.
Maintaining a balance between sports and academics, Sprague consistently achieved high averages throughout her four years in high school. With a plan to take sciences at UNB Saint John, Sprague is eager to explore what opportunities the program will offer her.
Another advantage of UNB Saint John is the proximity to her support system at home. “I wanted a fresh start away from home but at the same time not so far that my family wouldn’t be able to drive up for visits or to my basketball games,” said Sprague.
Welcome to the Seawolves family, Ava!
