Quinn Lanier has officially signed with the UNB Saint John Seawolves men’s basketball team for the 2023-24 varsity season.

Although Lanier grew up on a farm near Lethbridge, Alberta, a New Brunswick connection led to his landing UNB Saint John. Former UNB Fredericton men’s basketball player and coach Matt Daley coached Lanier at the prestigious Edge School in Calgary.

“I chose UNB Saint John because I wanted basketball to take me somewhere and to experience new things,” Lanier said. “I also chose UNB Saint John because I think I will be a good fit with the style of play and the guys on the team.”

Seawolves head coach Paul Vaughan anticipates Lanier being an energizer on the court. “Quinn’s athleticism is the first thing that catches your attention,” the coach said. “He’s an explosive athlete who attacks the rim hard. As coaches like to say, he has a great motor.

Quinn’s energy level and his ability to be a distributive force on defense will put his new teammates on notice. The work ethic and discipline he developed while at an elite program like Edge Prep will also be a positive influence on the group.

For Lanier, basketball helps him find balance. “Basketball is how I relax,” he said. “I am passionate about basketball because it brings me joy and calms my mind. I want to have a positive impact on the team and win.”

An honours student for each of his high school years, Lanier plans to study psychology at UNB Saint John. During his high school years, he was also active in track and field, finishing first in the high jump at the Calgary City Meet in 2022 and second in the long and triple jumps. Regardless of the sport, Lanier is thankful his father always set such a fine example. “No matter how much he achieves, he keeps working hard and striving for more,” Lanier said.

Welcome to the Seawolves Family, Quinn!
