Jenna Lawrence has officially signed with the UNB Saint John Seawolves Women’s volleyball team for the 2023-24 varsity season.
Coming to us from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Jenna will be graduating from Leo Hayes High school with a 4.0 GPA. Jenna has played for the 18U Spartans over the past two years where she won a Provincial Championship title with her team. In addition, she was awarded tournament all-star and played Varsity volleyball at Leo Hayes in grades eleven and twelve. She has an enormous passion for volleyball, it allows her to have fun with friends and she loves the intensity and competitiveness of the game. Jenna came to Saint John for a campus tour, to meet the coach and the team and mentioned how great her experience was.
“The team was very welcoming on my school visit. I am excited to play with many familiar faces”.
The Seawolves have a number of athletes that have come from the Fredericton area so Jenna will feel right at home. Jenna will be taking the Bachelor of Business Administration program once she arrives in the fall. Her choice in program is the perfect start to lead her down the path to becoming a CPA after she graduates. Jenna will be on the court with the team once open gyms and tryouts begin, her goals are to improve her overall volleyball skills as an athlete and to be a team player with a friendly face to all.
Since Jenna is always looking to improve her game, she often looks up to Canadian Women’s Volleyball National team member, Kiera Van Ryk. From the time Jenna watched her play in Alberta at the 2022 Nationals she has looked up to her and thinks she is an amazing player with great sportsmanship. Jenna has been greatly motivated and inspired by watching Van Ryk on the national stage, it’s a sure bet that we will see that motivation when Jenna hits the floor with the Seawolves.
Head coach of the Seawolves, Colin Chambers linked up with Cherie Campbell of Sportsmatch at the New Brunswick club provincials. It was there that Coach Chambers requested her help in finding a strong defensive player that would contribute greatly to the team. Without hesitation, he was informed that Jenna was the player he was looking for. After watching Jenna play a couple matches, he was sold and reached out to her the following week to encourage her to consider UNB Saint John.
“Jenna is a high energy attacker with a powerful swing and a challenging serve. She fits the mould of what we look for in a left side hitter and offers a defensive upside that will provide depth at libero for next season”.
Coach Chambers feels that Jenna will add a high caliber to the team and expects she will compete for regular playing time right away. Her prior experience with strength and conditioning gives her a leg up in adjusting to the next level of competition. She comes from a strong Spartans program and will bring a winning attitude and focused work ethic, which will help elevate the Seawolves program.
Welcome to the Seawolves Family Jenna!
