Haley Wilson has officially committed to the Seawolves Women’s Volleyball program.
Haley is a proud graduate of Nackawic High, Class of 2022 and has been on the principal’s honor roll, maintaining an average above 90%, all through high school. Not only is Haley an outstanding student, but she has quite the repertoire of volleyball experience. Sports have always been a large part of her life, but volleyball has been her constant since 2015. Haley’s volleyball resume includes the Reds Volleyball club (2018), Team New Brunswick (2018, 2019), training with the Canada Cup team (2019), tournament All-star VNB age class (2018), NHS Junior Varsity MVP (2019) and an invite to try out for Team NB at the 2022 Canada Games.
Haley loves the game for the competitive aspect and revels in the elation of getting a solid kill or celebrating a teammate for a stellar play. She feels that volleyball has a way of bringing people together and creating lasting relationships. The gym atmosphere feels just like home to her so Haley took her love for the sport a step further by becoming an official in 2019. Her older sister is no stranger to competing either, some of Haley’s fondest memories are watching her sister play and wanting to be just like her. Haley’s sister is her biggest role model and has been a wonderful support system through the years.
“I am so grateful for the opportunities this sport has given me during my years of playing. I am passionate about being the best player I can be.”
As Haley moves into her next athletic endeavor, her goals are to be a contributing member of the Seawolves team and take in as much as she can from her new coaches and peers. She wants to focus on improving her skills on and off the court and reap the benefits of playing as a next level competitor. On the academic side of things, Haley chose UNB Saint John as it allows her to pursue her post-secondary education while staying close to home. Her interest is also in the smaller class sizes that she feels will help her thrive in her studies. She will be taking the Bachelor of Business Administration once she arrives in the fall.
Haley was discovered while she was competing with the Reds Club team in the U18 Provincials in December. Her coach at the time, Geoff Mabey, introduced her to the Seawolves Head Coach, Colin Chambers following a tournament. A short time after, she reached out to learn more about UNB Saint John’s Business program. From Coach Chambers’ perspective, Haley appears to be a positive and energetic teammate who is a dynamic offensive contributor from the middle position.
“Her passion for the game is evident in her play on the court and that elevates the performance of those around her. She is active at the net and that will set her up for success as a middle blocker in the ACAA.”
Middle has been the focus of the recruiting efforts in the offseason and adding Haley to the roster will add depth to the team. Her strong work ethic should contribute to sustaining motivation towards the team goals over the summer and into next season.
Welcome to the Seawolves Family Haley!
