Now that the 2021-22 season has come and gone women’s basketball head coach Kevin Munroe is wasting no time in looking toward next season.
“Laura came highly recommended by her high school coach Cyrus Nava and was described as an excellent individual both on and off the court” says head coach Munroe.
The Seawolves are looking to build upon their young core and are excited about the skill set Prekaj will bring to the program.
“Basketball to me means practicing until you get better, it is about competing and where you create friendships” says Prekaj “Basketball has been a passion for me since the eighth grade and it is something I have always turned to when I am stressed and need to clear my mind.”
Laura’s athletic and academic achievements throughout her high school career is a true testament of what being a student athlete is all about.
- Athlete of the Year 2018-2022
- Honour Roll Award 2018-2022
- Basketball MVP & MDP Award 2018-2022
Hard working and dedication is exactly what head coach, Munroe is looking for in an athlete.
“They run a competitive team program there for girls of all ages.” Says Munroe, “Her coach's first words were “She is gritty”. She loves working hard, plays tough on defense and can score.”
It is always important to set goals for yourself and Prekaj already has a couple in mind.
“My goal is to continue to grow as an athlete and build on my skills.” Says Prekaj “I look forward to forming relationships with my teammates and working together toward a goal where we can strive to win.”
Off the court and into the classroom
Seawolves Athletics take great pride in academic success as 24 of our student athletes were recognized as CCAA National Scholars this past 2021-22 season.
“Laura has academic goals for her undergraduate degree and beyond.” Says Munroe, “She is very driven, focused and appears to be a perfect fit for our program.”
With excitement we were glad to hear that UNB Saint John (UNBSJ) checked off all Laura’s boxes as she continues her studies! Laura will be enrolled in the Bachelor of Science with a goal of going to Optometry school in the future.
“UNBSJ offers incredible program opportunities and because the campus is located far from my hometown of Mississauga, it gives me a great chance to explore something beyond my comfort zone” says Prekaj.
The Seawolves are proud to welcome Prekaj to the family!
