Your Seawolves Women’s Varsity Basketball team has just signed an exciting addition to their roster, all the way from Roblin, Manitoba. Lexi Hawryluk has searched for the best fit to continue her education and basketball career, and it has brought her to UNB Saint John!

Lexi is the definition of a 2-dimensional student athlete. She was recognized as an all star in basketball and volleyball multiple times during her career at Goose lake High school. As well, she graduated with high honors and scholastic awards like the Sneath Strilchuk Biology award and an MSVD Recognition award.

Head Coach of Women's Basketball, Kevin Munroe is thrilled that she shares the team’s culture of holding academics in high standard.

“Our team is committed to excellence in the classroom and Lexi will fit our program like a glove”.

Coach Munroe is also impressed by Lexi’s quickness, ability to read plays and her great ability to finish on both sides of the floor.

Starting her Bachelor of Nursing in the fall, the Manitoba native claims she was drawn to UNBSJ due to its more personal and hands on learning experience, with smaller class sizes and the practicum portions of her program. In her first season, she wants to become a more diverse player and believes she will add speed and energy to the roster. Lexi loves the challenge of basketball, and believes it is a great way to channel pent up energy and stress.

“I’m honestly so excited for all the new experiences I will have with the Seawolves family!”

She claims her role model is her older brother, who plays for the Florida panthers in the NHL. From his success of coming from a small town to stardom, she has learned the virtue of determination and hard work. Coach Munroe can see the same work ethic in Lexi and is thrilled to see what her first season with the Seawolves looks like.

“We are excited to see her out with the team and watching her game adapt to this level of play”.

Welcome to the Seawolves family Lexi!
