Katie Wood had a few kilometers to travel, 3,752 to be exact, to come play volleyball on the east coast.  Her first year brought her to Prince Edward Island to play for the Holland College Hurricanes but she will be starting the 2019-20 varsity season with the UNB Saint John Seawolves.

Katie ended her volleyball career as a Hurricane on a high note, receiving the 2018-19 ACAA Libero of the Year award. This was not a surprise, given she was named Female Athlete of the Year in grade 12. Not only is she a great athlete, she is also an exceptional student. Katie will arrive in the fall to take the Business program at UNB Saint John. Her passion for volleyball can be attributed to opportunities that have been given to her to meet new people and make lasting friendships. She loves a challenge and is excited to transition to a new team and culture. Katie will add aggression and commitment to the Seawolves team. Her positive attitude and supportive style will help her reach her goals as a team player.

“I look forward to playing some good volleyball with high intensity plays. I’m excited to get to know all the girls on the team and working together to accomplish our goals, as well as having fun on and off the court.”

The importance of working hard in practice and games is crucial to Katie. Her goal is to maintain intensity and focus when she steps on the court. Katie will stop at nothing to dig every ball she can and having a great support system (coaches and team) will help her perform to the best of her ability. She enjoys the atmosphere on campus as well as on the team and feels that both are a great fit for her.

Katie’s biggest role model is her mom, who taught her the value of hard work.

“She works hard every day without every complaining. She is very kind and helpful to everyone. She’s great! I love her!”

Head coach, Lauren Hale-Miller looks forward to seeing Katie’s defensive skills put into action once she joins the team. She has seen Katie play many times and feels that she is relentless on the court and will be a valuable asset to the team. Coach Hale-Miller also is eager to see Katie’s stabilization of the back court to keep balls in play.

“Katie brings a lot of energy and drive to the court which are two major factors in our success.”

“I am very excited to have Katie join us in the fall to continue her education. Katie is coming to us as the 2018-19 ACAA Libero of the Year where she did a fantastic job for Holland College.”

Welcome to the Seawolves Family Katie!
