Partnership agreement serves as an avenue to promote excellence in the health leadership field.

The University of New Brunswick’s (UNB) Bachelor of Health program has entered into a strategic alliance with the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) to increase the leadership capabilities of Canadian health leaders.

Through this agreement, bachelor of health students can work towards their Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation, the only certification program for Canadian health leaders. This certification provides support for lifelong learning in health services leadership; assistance with career advancement; peer recognition; and serves as an essential career designation.

“The Bachelor of Health program and the Integrated Health Initiative – is not just about degrees but about shaping tomorrow's leaders,” explains Dr. Lisa Best, associate director, UNB Integrated Health. “Our interdisciplinary education approach provides the tools for individuals to thrive in their careers, communities and personal health journeys and is a perfect fit with the CHE designation now available to our students.”

This collaboration allows for both organizations to better address the constantly evolving needs of health leaders and align themselves with the Lead Self, Engage Others, Achieve Results, Develop Coalitions, and Systems Transformation (LEADS) in a Caring Environment framework. This framework is a foundation for Canadian health leadership development and defines the knowledge, skills and attitudes a leader must have to positively contribute to the Canadian health care system.

The Bachelor of Health program at UNB’s Saint John campus is unique in Eastern Canada, offering an interdisciplinary curriculum that integrates arts, business and science that offers students an unparalleled understanding of the health sector, preparing them for roles as administrators, policymakers, and informed citizens. Students interested in research can also complete an honours degree.

“We are excited about this collaboration with UNB, who show their commitment to health leadership by incorporating the LEADS framework into their curriculum and having the CHE as a preferred designation for their students,” said Brenda Lammi, senior Vice-President, Leadership and Professional Development at CCHL.
