Former First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama will be the featured speaker at an event in Halifax in October organized by the Nova Scotia Co-operative Council in collaboration with six post-secondary institutions in the region, including the University of New Brunswick (UNB).
Obama, who recently wrapped up a book tour for The Light We Carry, will speak at the Scotiabank Centre on October 18 as part of the council’s 75th-anniversary celebrations.
“We are honoured and excited that Mrs. Obama has chosen to join us for her first Atlantic Canadian engagement following her incredibly successful book tour,” said Dianne Kelderman, the Nova Scotia Co-operative Council CEO.
“How fitting to host this event along with the support of so many others in a cooperative spirit during Canada’s co-op week. We know the event will be inspiring, thought-provoking, and game-changing.”
The event will promote the values of the co-operative movement and credit unions. Obama’s talk and the event will embrace themes such as hope, optimism, resilience, kindness, community and impact.
UNB is proud to be one of the education supporters for this exciting event and the only one from the province.
In collaboration with six prestigious Atlantic Canada post-secondary institutions, charities, and non-profit organizations, the Nova Scotia Co-operative Council is thrilled to welcome over 3,000 deserving bright minds to this extraordinary event, offering them access to additional learning opportunities at no cost.
