The University of New Brunswick (UNB) is one of the best places to work and has the accolades to prove it. For the third year running, Forbes named UNB one of Canada’s Best Employers for 2023. Additionally, Atlantic Canada’s Top Employers named UNB to its list for 2023 - the eleventh year in a row for this honour.

“UNB’s most valuable assets are our people, which is why we work hard to provide our employees with an exceptional workplace experience,” said Dr. Paul J. Mazerolle, president and vice-chancellor of UNB. “We’re proud to offer one of the top places to work in Canada. This recognition demonstrates our forward momentum in being a people-centric, values-informed university, as outlined in our strategic vision. I am deeply grateful to our students, faculty, staff and alumni who make UNB the great place it is.”

Both competitions review employee feedback based on a variety of criteria which qualify companies within Canada to be named one of the best workplaces for employees. These include hybrid work models, professional development opportunities and health benefits which support new and growing families.

Forbes Canada's Best Employers (2023)

Forbes and Statista selected Canada's Best Employers 2023 based on independent surveys of over 12,000 employees working part-time or full-time for companies employing at least 500 people in Canada.

The evaluation was based on recommendations from employees who were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family.

Atlantic Canada's Top Employers (2023)

Atlantic Canada’s Top Employers, managed by Mediacorp Canada Inc., recognizes employers in Canada’s four Atlantic provinces. It looks for companies that lead their industries in offering a supportive workplace environment that provides benefits such as paid leave for new parents and flexible health plans with coverage tailored to the needs of each employee and their family.

Some of the reasons for UNB’s selection include:

  • its development of a formal remote work policy that includes hybrid work and fully remote work-from-home arrangements.
  • encouraging employees to continue their professional (and personal) development through a variety of in-house and online training initiatives. Subsidies are provided.
  • helping employees plan securely for the future with contributions to a defined benefit pension plan and retirement planning assistance.
