UNB's team placed in the top 10% of participating universities from across North America on the William Lowell Putnam mathematics competition written in December 2014.  The team of students representing UNB consisted of Tony Wu, Brandon Doherty, and Patrick McIntyre.  All three of the students placed in the top third of the contestants, and Tony placed in the top 500 contestants.  The Putnam competition is the premier mathematics competition for undergraduate students.  This year, it was written by 4320 students from 577 different institutions.  The exam is six hours long, and consists of only twelve questions.  While simple to state, they are challenging to solve: fewer than half of the participating students correctly solve even one of the questions.  Congratulations to Tony, Brandon, and Patrick for their fine performance!
