UNB welcomes new Schulich Scholarship recipients

The University of New Brunswick is proud to welcome its two newest recipients of the prestigious Schulich Leader Scholarship, Canada’s most coveted science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) scholarship. Out of a pool of 350,000 potential candidates across Canada, these outstanding students were among the 100 who received this celebrated award.

 

Meet the Scholars

Jacob Ledoux - $120,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship

Jacob Ledoux, a graduate of Oromocto High School in Oromocto, N.B., has been awarded the $120,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. He will be entering the bachelor of science in engineering program on UNB’s Fredericton campus this fall. Ledoux’s exceptional academic and extra-curricular achievements include:

  • Volunteer Work: As a lab assistant and tutor, Ledoux has contributed significantly to his school community.
  • Innovation: His extensive work in the area of 3D printing led to the creation of a life-sized, 3D printed humanoid robot that won awards for innovation.
  • STEM Mentor: Ledoux served as a STEM mentor with Brilliant Labs, inspiring other students in the field.

 

Benjamin Bilsky - $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship

Benjamin Bilsky, a graduate of St. Stephen High School in St. Stephen, N.B., has been awarded the $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. He will be entering the bachelor of computer science program on UNB’s Fredericton campus this fall. Bilsky’s remarkable achievements include:

  • Coding Skills: Bilsky is self-taught in coding, demonstrating his passion for technology.
  • Summer Session: He received a Unobskey Scholarship for a prestigious five-week summer session at the Phillips Academy in Massachusetts.
  • Community Involvement: Bilsky volunteered at technology camps, sharing his knowledge with others.

 

Impact and Future Endeavors

These Schulich Scholars represent the best and brightest that Canada has to offer. With their university expenses covered, they can now focus their time on:

  • Studies: Pursuing their academic goals in STEM fields.
  • Research Projects: Contributing to cutting-edge research.
  • Extracurriculars: Engaging in activities that enhance their learning experience.
  • Entrepreneurial Ventures: Exploring innovative ideas and solutions.

As Mr. Schulich, the program founder, aptly puts it: “They are the next generation of entrepreneurial-minded, technology innovators.” We look forward to witnessing their positive impact on both a national and global scale.
