Nov. 1 - Eric Hill
The North Fades combines text, sound, music and video that Hill has gathered, assembled, and refined during his Artist-in-Residency this year at the UNB Art Centre, which was made possible with a grant from Artsnb.
The "North" named here is Northern New Brunswick, specifically Campbellton and its surrounding geography, where Eric Hill grew up. The project creates a memoir in the voice of the place itself, overlaying fragments from memories and artifacts from the 70s and 80s with fresh images, sounds, and writing gathered directly from the same spaces and through the voices of people who have lived or currently still live in the region.
Terry Graff's Avian Cyborgs
Experience the unique and thought-provoking work of visual artist Terry Graff's national touring exhibition Avian Cyborgs. The exhibition involves over 400 paintings, collages, assemblages and sculptures with a persistent avian motif in an elaborate techno-fantasy that focuses on Graff's life-long exploration of the relationship between nature and technology. The exhibition runs until Dec. 6, 2024.
The UNB Art Centre (506-453-4623) is located at Memorial Hall, 9 Bailey Drive, University of New Brunswick, Fredericton. The galleries are open 9 am - 4 pm weekdays and during special events. Admission is free to members of the public.

Chantal Khoury, Poser
2014
Oil on canvas
121.9 x 91.4 cm
This painting is from the exhibit Unstilled Egos shown at the UNB Art Centre in 2014. Works from this series are striking studies in contemporary portraiture. Working in oil paint, Khoury's paintings are expressionistic, featuring a Fauvist palette with intense colour contrasts and loose brushwork. Inspired by images found in magazines and newspapers, the artist explores the female figure to discover ideas of identity and beauty. While her approach to artmaking has changed over time, she continues to explore ways to engage the audience with her subjects.
Chantal Khoury earned her BFA from Concordia University in 2012 and her MFA from Guelph University in 2021. In 2023, she was awarded the prestigious Joseph Plaskett Award in Painting, which recognizes promising emerging artists and provides them with generous financial support for travel and creation. That same year, she was awarded the RBC Emerging Artist Award, another prestigious award designed to bridge the gap between emerging and established artists. In addition, she has received grants from the Canada Council and the Ontario Arts Council, as well as scholarships and grants from Guelph University. This year, she was recognized as one of the "Six Standout Artists Discovered at the Dallas Art Fair" in Galerie Magazine. She has had solo and group exhibits in Montreal, Toronto, London and Fredericton, as well as Amsterdam, Stockholm, New York and Dallas.
