Einstein’s General Relativity is a theory of gravity that explains our universe on large scales. One of the solutions to Einstein’s equations is the Kerr solution which describes a rotating black hole. Roger Penrose suggested a method of extracting energy from such black holes known as the Penrose mechanism. In this talk, I will give an introduction to General Relativity, explain Kerr black holes and look at some of the interesting properties they have. Finally, I will describe the Penrose process of extracting energy from such black holes.
