Equivariant Index Theorem and the Van Est Map

Let H be a compact subgroup of a Lie group G. When G/H is not compact, G-invariant elliptic operator on G/H in general fails to be Fredholm. In this talk, we will explain an index theorem about such operators using non-commutative geometry.
