Cybercriminals are turning to a new remote access tool and using creative text messages to slip it onto unsuspecting users’ devices.omnirat Though the new software, called OmniRAT, can be used for legitimate purposes, it is also being used to spy on users and even hijack their Android, Windows, and Mac OS X devices. Users are receiving a text message telling them a multimedia message cannot be delivered directly to them because of the StageFright Vulnerability. Included in the text message is a link that will supposedly direct them to the multimedia message. The trap to this message is clicking the link, which will attempt to install OmniRAT onto the user’s device, allowing hackers to control the device from afar.
