Great news, faculty and staff!

This August, ITS will be deploying Access Manager, a self-service application available through the myUNB Portal for managing and controlling access to UNB IT services and data.

Why are we doing this?

By clearly identifying the individual accesses of faculty and staff and applying consistent expiry dates to each access, Access Manager will help ensure the right people have the proper access to the UNB IT services and data they need. This new system will:

  • Greatly streamline UNB’s access control process
  • Increase security for UNB data and electronic services
  • Provide a centralized location for:
    • Faculty & Staff to view which accesses they have and which ones they don’t
    • Supervisors to easily and securely review, compare and request staff access

What this means for Faculty & Staff

Access Manager will provide you with a central location to view the IT services and systems you have access to, as well as browse lists of other accesses that can be requested. In most cases, a supervisor will be required to request or renew access via Access Manager on your behalf; however, you will be able to request some accesses directly through the system with no further action from a supervisor.

Additionally, all your current accesses, as well as any new accesses you receive, will be assigned an expiry date. Don’t worry, as this date approaches, you and your supervisor will be notified via email as well as within your myUNB Portal Notifications area. Your supervisor will then have up to 30 days to renew or expire the access as appropriate via Access Manager.

What this means for Supervisors & Portfolio/Envelope Management

Once Access Manager is in place, you will be required to use this new service to request all new IT accesses for staff, as well as renew accesses annually. 30 days prior to a staff member’s access expiry, Supervisors will be notified via email as well as within your myUNB Portal Notifications area and will then be required to renew or expire the access as appropriate via Access Manager.

Depending on the sensitivity of the access, some accesses may require additional approval from Portfolio/Envelope Management. More details on this, as well as instructions on how to use Access Manager, will be available soon.
