Computers are a lot like desks – a little bit of work can make them very cluttered. Just like a messy desk, a cluttered computer can make it difficult to get work done productively and efficiently.

Spending a few minutes now on organization can save you hours in the long run, so what can you do to organize your computer?

#1. Create folders – Folders allow you to organize all of your relevant files into separate locations so you always can find what you need in just a few clicks of your mouse.

#2. Organize your desktop – The desktop is a common dumping ground for files and program shortcuts due to its convenient location. However, storing too many documents and programs on your desktop can actually be more of an inconvenience than anything else.  Try grouping your desktop into categories, keeping similar documents and programs in the same areas of the screen.  That way, you’ll only have to look through one section rather than sifting through the entire screen.

#3. Use your taskbar – Drag and drop the programs you use most into your taskbar (located along the bottom of your desktop, next to the Start button ) and delete any others that you don’t use.  This will allow you to open new programs without having to minimize your Windows to find a program on the desktop.
