Great news, UNB!

This summer, UNB’s Wireless network equipment is being upgraded with new and improved technology that will make wireless on all UNB campuses better than ever.

A collaborative effort between Information Services & Systems (ISS) in Saint John and Information Technology Services (ITS) in Fredericton, our teams are hard at work installing new wireless access points and controllers on both campuses to increase the reliability and coverage of our wireless network.

What exactly does this mean for faculty, staff and students?

The objective is to significantly increase our current network capacity which will allow you to connect to the network with a variety of devices, whether with a tablet or smartphone or laptop, or even all at once, and still have reliable and dependable wireless performance. Not only that, the new service will also provide increased coverage for very large lecture halls, and eventually even coverage for certain outdoor spaces.

The new UNB Wireless network won’t officially be available until October, but that doesn’t mean you won’t notice the difference before then. As equipment is upgraded in each building, you should see some minor but immediate improvements to wireless in that location.
